3 Wheeler Buggies

lionelo-kori-2in1-pushchair-three-wheeleA three wheeler pushchairs-wheeler is perfect for tackling off-road terrain and provides a smooth ride for your baby. They are also easier to maneuver and push than a four-wheeler, especially those with fabric sling seats or modular seat units that are placed snugly in the frame, delivering the most efficient geometry and weight distribution.

Stability

A three-wheeled buggy offers excellent stability, which is the reason it's a good option for off-road walking (especially with an all-terrain or off-road-style seat). They usually have large front wheels, which can cope well with kerbs and bumps and rough ground. Some have a lockable wheels in the front to give you extra stability when driving on uneven terrain.

It's worth bearing in mind that 3 wheeler buggy-wheel buggies may have a lower centre of gravity than models with four wheels, which can mean that they can tip over more easily. But, the top 3-wheel pushchairs are designed with an ideal geometry and design to make them very solid in all conditions. They should be able of turning at a whim and be able to steer with one hand and have a 360o swivelling front wheel which makes them ideal for maneuvering and navigating challenging terrain.

Look for models with pneumatic tyres. These are designed to be able to navigate tracks that aren't paved and should be able to handle dirt, gravel, rocks, etc. A lot of all-terrain buggies have an swivelling wheel on the front that can be locked for extra stability when you're dealing with rough terrain.

A 3-wheel pram is also an ideal option for runners and those who like to walk quickly and uphill, particularly when you plan to attach a car seat or carrycot. The Roma Atlas is an excellent example. It features the flat-reclining seat, a 5-point harness, and plenty of storage space to store all your equipment (plus a 50+ extendable sun hood). It's light compact and safe for use from birth. It can be used with either a car seat or carrycot. It can also be used for light jogging but it's not designed for serious runners.

Weight

If you are seeking a buggy that can take on difficult terrain, you should pick one with large tires. They will be able to handle grass, cobbles and dirt tracks while providing an enjoyable ride for all passengers. These are also great for jogging because they have built-in suspension and are easy enough to climb up and down kerbs. However, they're quite heavy to push.

The Mountain Buggy Urban Glide 2 is the most suitable 3 wheel buggy for use on rough terrain (pictured above). This 3 wheel stroller-wheel buggy has 16 rear wheels, and a lockable swivel front wheel which makes it very maneuverable. It has air tyres, which do need occasional pumping and it can be used to carry a child until the age of 3. MFM reviewer Kath said that her toddler enjoyed the shape of the seat and found it easy to steer even with her three-year-old child on board.

Another option that is great is the Baby Jogger Versa GT, which has an adjustable handlebar as well as a hood that is of high-quality with 50+ UV protection. It is also easy to move up and down kerbs and fits into a the car's boot space in a small size. It can be used as a stroller along with a carrycot for newborns or toddlers.

Fabric sling seats are tucked inside the buggie's frame instead of over it like modular seats. This design has a lower centre-of-gravity, which is the right height. It is much easier to push, and lighter to kerb pop (you don't know how many times you'll need to do that as a new parent!).

Seating

There are many alternatives for seating options in 3 wheelers. The included carrycot plus is perfect for newborns (which MFM reviewer Alice describes as a cozy and comfortable lying-flat bed that can be used both in and out of the buggy). Older children and toddlers will enjoy the large and comfortable seat with adjustable ventilation. The seats don't fully recline, but they can be adjusted to the lowest point. This should still allow your child to have plenty of space and headroom.

A sling seat made of cloth is also available. It has the advantage of being set snugly inside the frame rather than sitting on top as the modular seat. This delivers a much lower centre of gravity as well as a perfect weight distribution. This makes it easier to push, particularly over bumpy terrain and curbs. MFM reviewer Kath liked the way this kind of seat handled challenges.

Alongside a huge shopping basket, this type of buggy generally has quite useful features, such as an extendable 50+ UV hood, a simple brake pedal, and a few bright, game-changing lights that come up from the handlebars and can be placed directly in front of the occupants to increase their safety when they are tackling difficult terrain.

Alternatively, if you are searching for a single baby buggy that will expand with your family, there's the brand-new sport(tm) which is the first in the world to take a single infant from the moment of birth and change to take two or even three once your children have developed in the space of a single buggy.

Stores

The 3-wheeled frame is more sturdy and can be moved with just one hand. It's also better for terrains that are difficult to navigate. However, it means that the shopping basket can't hold the same amount as a 4-wheeled buggy.

A good quality ATP will have excellent suspension, pneumatic tyres, and a padded handle for your convenience. It will also be able to take car seats and a carrycot which means you can use it right from the time you are born.

MFM's reviewers have discovered that the 3 wheel reversible stroller-wheeler frame won't fit through all the doors of their homes or small car boots - make sure you check the dimensions of the buggy when it's folded before purchasing in case you're concerned about space.

Choose a 3-wheeler with 2 (or 3!) seats. This is the best choice for your child's future and will help you save money. The iCandy Strawberry Sport is one of the most well-known. It can be used from the day of birth as a single buggy and then converted into twin buggies when your baby is walking.

Tyres

These tyres absorb bumps and uneven surfaces to make your child's ride more comfortable. They are typically found on pushchairs like the Phil and Ted's Sport, which MFM reviewer Kath said offered "an amazing ride for her toddler". She also said that the grippy tires of the Phil & Ted's Sport made it easy for her to negotiate the kerbs as well as other obstacles.

These tyres are sometimes difficult to maintain and will require having their air pressure topped up regularly. These tyres are more susceptible to punctures, which is why you should always carry a repair kit and spare inner tube when you're out and about.

PU tyres can be seen on more pushchairs than air-filled tyres but they're just as robust. PU tire are easily identifiable by their matte finish and supple feel. They also slide over smooth and tidy surfaces.

If you rub your hands over the tyres, then you can tell if they're rubber or PU. If it feels as if it's sliding, then it's a PU. You can also check whether your buggy comes with PU tyres by sliding them across a flat, clean surface. They should roll easily and fit snugly into wheel hubs.

Foam tyres are able to withstand the rough terrain associated with high-performance buggies. The downside of this is that the foam may expand and cause your buggy to appear less stable because it loses its springy quality. These tyres are also noisy due to the fact that they create lots of noise when you turn and drive around town.
