Lamborghini, the Italian automobile manufacturer has taken the first step into non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project, named the Space Key, is a piece created in collaboration with an unidentified artist. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off in the next few weeks.
The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite materials that Lamborghini took to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of an investigation project. Once it returned to earth the carbon fiber was transformed into this distinctive artwork. The physical element is imprinted with an NFT serial number that ties to the corresponding digital artwork using a QR code on the back.
NFTs, for those who are not familiar are unique identifiers which are recorded on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and connected to a digital asset like a photograph video, song, or other recording. This allows owners to verify the authenticity, scarcity and trackability of their tokens over the internet.
Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art to a new level by working with NFT PRO, a white label NFT solution for business. In the coming months, Lamborghini will announce details about the exciting project. This includes the name of the artists unknown to them and a timetable for auction.
