Buying a Pram Newborn

Prams and pushchairs car seats are the multi-functional, multi-purpose companions of caregivers and parents. They are the co-pilots of your child's journey.

A pram for newborns is a special stroller for infants and newborns. It has a sturdy, deep carrycot and soft walls and safe.

A pram comes with a bassinet. However, it can also be converted into a stroller when the baby is ready.

Safety

Newborns are extremely fragile and must be kept as safe as possible. A stroller or pram with safety features will keep your baby safe and comfortable during travel. The most essential requirements for any pram or stroller are to have a working brake, a five-point safety harness (2 shoulder straps, 2 waist straps, and the strap for the crotch) and the wrist tether strap that is for the person pushing the pram. Verify that the stroller newborn you select meets these requirements.

Find a pram that allows your baby to travel in the recommended position of lying flat. This position is supportive for your baby and avoids a dangerous curvature in their spine that can lead to spinal problems. It reduces the risk of SUID (Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome) or asphyxiation by keeping airways free. Most prams can be used right from the time of birth. They come with seats that recline into a lay-flat position for infants. It can also be converted into a pushchair for older children.

The suspension of a pram will determine how smoothly it rides. A childs pram with lots of suspension is likely to be more costly but it might be worth the cost of this feature if you intend to use your pram daily for a few years or longer.

Always read the directions and read the warning labels on your stroller or pram. When not in use, keep your stroller away from any potential hazards such as bicycles, traffic or other people. It is also important to remove any bags or other items that are not removed from the handles as they could cause your baby to get caught or choke.

Even if the baby seems asleep, it's never recommended to leave a pram or stroller unattended. They could wriggle into the triple pram and get trapped, or slide away and cause injury. It's also not a good idea to hang bags or other things from the handles because they could fall and hit your baby in the head.

Comfort

Possibility of lying flat seating is a necessity for babies, because it helps improve back and lung development. Cocoons or carrycots are available on many prams. They create a nest-like environment that is comfortable for your baby and can be removed easily from the frame. Some seats, like the bucket-style seat found on the egg2, aren't able to recline completely flat, but they provide an enjoyable ride for your child.

Some prams also feature an additional bassinet, infant inset or stroller seat so you can easily switch between sleeping and sitting modes based on your baby's requirements. It is commonly called a 'travel system' and is the first configuration you should try with your newborn.

Look for a pram with two shoulder straps (ideally with padding) and a functional five-point safety harness that fits your baby's body safely. Make sure there are no gaps or loose areas where fingers could get trapped and that the buckles are easy to use, especially for older children. It's also worth considering whether you'd prefer a pram that faces the parent or not - it's ideal to keep an eye on your little one and helps children feel secure with the familiarity of their parents.

Convenience

When you are shopping for a new baby's pram, it is important to consider your baby's needs for transport. Some prams come with carrycots, a bassinet or a seat that can recline to an upright position. This is important to ensure your baby's spinal development and breathing. You should also check what other accessories are included in the pram, like a footmuff and changing bag. These are essential for keeping your baby warm in the event of cold.

It's important to note that some prams and strollers can be transformed into travel systems allowing you to connect a car capsule to the frame using adaptors so that you can move your baby between the car and the pushchair without needing to wake them up. This is a great option if you have a busy life or don't have a big enough boot for prams, however it is worth bearing in mind that your child will need to be old enough and able to sit up independently before you can switch them from car capsule to pram.

Another feature you may want to keep an eye on is the possibility of raising and lowering the infant's seat from a low to high setting, which helps maintain eye contact with them and keeps them close to you, something that our tester for parents found very useful for her 10-month old boy! You should also be able to keep shopping bags and changing bags in the basket beneath. You should be able to store bags for shopping and changing beneath the pram (but be aware that too much weight can cause it to topple over).
