World of Warcraft Upgrades and Item Upgrading

Upgrades can increase the value of armors, weapons and rings. Upgrades also increase bonuses such as Crit chance and damage from PvE.

The cost of upgrading an item is determined by the item's level. The cost increases with item's level.

Components

Upgrade components are items that can be inserted into weapons, armor, and trinkets to give an extra stat boost or effect while they're in use. They can be obtained by crafting, purchasing from vendors trading, or looting. Certain upgrades also come with specific cosmetic effects.

Upgrade components can only be applied to devices that have slots. The item must be upgraded to blue before a component can be used. Upgrade components, unlike other mods, can only be applied once. They are not able to be replaced or applied multiple times. Infusions and Enrichments are a kind of upgrade component that is used to upgrade non-amulet legendary and ascended equipment, as well as some non-ascended items. Infusions and enrichments can be retrieved by salvaging gear from the ascended, or completing an elite task in the Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall campaigns.

When an item is upgraded by a player, the base item is replaced with a new item of the same kind. This means that the same piece of armor will be transformed into an weapon or shield once upgraded. The new item comes with its own bonus. This can be a downside in that the item could be more expensive even if you don't require it.

item upgrades (maps.google.gg) can sometimes be rerolled, provided that the player has enough tokens in order to do so. The item will be replaced by the same item, but it has a level 1 basis and totally different bonuses. This is a good option for certain items, however it's not something that should be performed frequently, since it can waste many resources.
