World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Based on the type of upgrade it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests Each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a specified amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's basic stats increase when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades to items can be costly depending on the upgrader you choose and the type of upgrade you choose to make. This is due to the sheer number of perks that must be altered to upgrade an item upgrade.
It can also be used as a gating requirement while queueing for raids, dungeons and scenarios. It can also be used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, scenarios and raids, and to limit the amount of PvP gear a player can wear (since PvP is limited to a lower level). Players can see their average item level in their character sheet.
When deciding whether to buy or sell gear players can look at the level of an item. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it will be capable of causing. Comparing items from a vendor's stock can be done using the item's level.
On your PC, you can view the item level using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. The item upgrader kit will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. It is also accessible by hovering over an item using the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories on how the item level calculation is done. One theory is that the item level is a numerical value derived from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It considers that different benefits are valued differently and that gems found in sockets increase the value of the item. This could result in an item's ilvl calculated, which is typically very close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
However, this is not the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, because the level of the area the item dropped in can alter the value of its stats, such as by adding a level to its haste rating or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher the ilvl than items from lower level instances.
Item Stats
The stats of an item are a major component of what determines the value of an item for players. The game utilizes them in many ways to encourage players not to limit themselves to a single weapon and to motivate players to explore other weapons. The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.
The upgrades to an item can increase the stats of an item. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. For instance, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with rare tiers can be upgraded many times, at higher costs.
Affixes are another way to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts which can be added by the player to an item. Affixes are used to provide items with extra damage or other special capabilities (such as revitalizing dead or reducing cooling downs), or to make them unique by putting a name on them.
Presently, all affixes are able to be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with the arrows that circle. This will cost a certain amount of gold and other items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges similar to other rerolling methods.
Players can choose to upgrade an item with a specific stat or reroll affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However every item will include at least one stat in the same range, unless it's an item that is unique or a God Roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to roll the attaches, or select which stats to increase. Similar to base equipment, it will have to be done per item and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats at once.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player can increase the chance of finding items, the properties that are spawned by loot and the strength of these properties. However, it does not, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives players a possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves and is thus more valuable in the initial game run as opposed to later ones, as most players prioritize higher weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall chances of upgrading, which increase with each level of the item. It is also possible to be enhanced by using anti-materials such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.
The shields, armor and weapons have a default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved with golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) to increase the value of 40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.
Additionally there are certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be bought at the store, or they can be constructed using the right ingredients.
Item Failure
Upgrades to items are expensive and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade or to stop players from losing their item if it fails.
The success rate of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading the item and it can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased by so high, and the probability that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item may influence the success of an upgrade. All items have an overall success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.
The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This can block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
