World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.
The process of upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a set number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a specific amount.
Item Level
The value of an item's base stats increases when it is upgraded. The value is the sum of all of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the variety of perks that must be changed in order to upgrade an item.
It is also used as a gating requirement while waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It is also used to limit how much PvP gear players can use as PvP is restricted at a lower level. The average level of an item is listed on the character sheet.
The level of an item will allow players to compare the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a measure of the item's condition and quality. The item level can also be used to evaluate items when examining the inventory of a seller.
The level of the item can be checked by pressing the ALT key on your PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including ilvl. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then entering /itemlevel into chat.
There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates how much an item's stats are worth. It is based on the fact that different benefits are valued differently and that gems in sockets increase the item's value. This process can result in a calculated amount for the item's ilvl which is usually quite close to the actual Blizzard item level.
This is not the only factor that affects the value of an item. The location of where the item was dropped may change its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste or crit rating. Items that drop in higher-level instances will have a higher ilvl.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant element in what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a variety of them in various ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the most effective." The base stats on a weapon are boosted by the weapon's stat mods which are then increased by the player's skill.
Item upgrades add to that by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item upgrader kit determines its upgrade cost. An item that is white or grey for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with higher costs.
Affixes can also be used to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all sizes and shapes. The affixes are used to give items extra damage or special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to differentiate them by adding a name.
Currently, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. This procedure will cost the player a certain amount of gold as well as items which can be used to add to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.
Players can choose to upgrade an item with specific stats, or reroll the affixes. The range of stats determined by the item's level. However each item will contain at least one stat in the range, unless they are a unique item, or a God Roll from a raid boss.
Another thing that could be changed is the option to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the affixes, or choose which stats to boost. As with the base equipment, it would have to be done per item, and the item upgrader kit comparison interface will not show all possible stats simultaneously.
Item Luck
A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of the properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is especially advantageous in early game runs since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains.
In addition to influencing the discovery of items, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each level and can be further increased through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can spawn or be crafted with the Luck property, which has a default value of 40. These items can be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the type of material used) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to increase the luck of an item up to 140.
Furthermore some items, such as the Hollow infused weapon can be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items can be found in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the success rate of an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it fails.
When you upgrade an item, the rate of success is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the probability of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be increased by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which the success rates can be improved and the chance of an upgrade failing can't exceed 100%..
The success of an upgrade is also affected by the Luck of that item. All items have an overall success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by 5percent.
The upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This can cause obscurity to enchantment effects or other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
