Choosing a large bedside cot [Www.rmbbk.com]

Bedside cots (also known as co-sleepers or bassinets) are designed to let parents snuggle with their infant at night without fear of SIDS. They are recommended for up to 6 months old, at which point your baby will be ready to be moved to an actual cot.

Mehack is an MFM home tester, was impressed by the fact that this model features an integrated bassinet that can be used all around the home. It also has an option to rock manually. It was also simple to put together and came in its own travel bag for large bedside cot convenient storage.

Size

Cots are smaller than cots. They are less than. They also can be converted into toddler beds, whereas the cot beds are typically used until three years old. older. If you're opting for a wooden cot, there are usually two sizes available - standard and large - both of which will convert into a toddler bed or cot bed. If you'd like your child (or children) to be capable of sleeping in the larger cot, it's a good option to select the larger one.

MFM mom home test Jasmine liked that this bedside cot was a little bigger than a Moses basket, but not too large for the space of her baby's. She says it's easy to carry her child in and out for feeding or soothing and that the quality is great when compared to other cots she's encountered that feel cheap and flimsy.

Emily, another home tester, loves the flexibility of the Maxi-Cosi lora which is a lift-off, portable bassinet. It also is a rock. It also has an incline of reflux as well as a machine washable liner that breathes. And it was shortlisted in the 2021 Mother&Baby awards for Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket. In contrast to International or European cot brands, the Lora can fit South African cot mattresses so you don't need to purchase a new mattress as your baby grows. It will require a specific bedding set (60x120cm). You can find the perfect mattress for your cot here.

Height

When choosing a crib for your bed pick one that can be adjusted to the ideal height for you. It should also be able to be lowered out of the way, so you can raise your baby to feed them at night or comfort him. This is particularly useful in the event of recovering from a C Section. The Next2me cot and Tutti Bambini can be adjusted to an maximum height of 58cm, while the Snuzpod 3 can go up to 63cm, and the Knuma Hutch can be adjusted to 70cm.

You should also consider the level you'd like the base of your crib to be. Some moms find it is easier to lift their infants from their standard Moses baskets when the base is at the lowest point, while others prefer a higher level to provide them with more stability. One of our mum testers said that the Joie Roomie Glide was a popular choice. It is an easily collapsible side that which you can use to touch a button.

Keep in mind that a bassinet or bedside crib with changing table sleeping device is only suitable when your baby can hold his head up with no assistance, which is typically around 6 months. This is due to the possibility of suffocation. It is also important to be aware that if your child is old enough to turn an existing bedside cot 6 months plus or bassinet into a cot, you must remove the sides when they are able to do so. This will stop them from getting out or falling out of bed.

There are many different styles of bedside cribs, from basic to extravagant. Some of the most extravagant options include features such as an integrated light, a soothing center which plays music and sounds and has two levels to help ease your baby back to sleep, or a swivelling footrest that makes it easier for you to reach your child when you need to feed them. Some models can be converted into the toddler bed or cot bed (or both) when your child is ready for their own bed.

For example, the Tutti Bambini CoZee Air that won Bronze in the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards for the Best Crib, Cot or Moses Basket category, has a swivelling base that lets you pick up your baby and move them from one side of the crib to the other without having to get out of bed. This is perfect for new mums recovering from Caesareans, or those who need to stay in bed for prolonged periods of time. MFM mom home tester Jasmine loved this feature, stating that it was easy to use and made reaching her baby much more manageable - especially after her c-section.

Another option is the Chicco Next2me Magic, which won Gold at the 2021 Mother&Baby Awards in the category of the Best Cot, Crib or Moses Basket. It also comes with an easy-to-clean liner, reflux incline, and rocking function. It's slightly larger than the other cribs for bed we've tried, but it folds flat into its bag for travel cot bedside, so it is relatively compact when not in use.

MFM mum home test Leya also appreciated the function of this bedside crib, explaining how it was designed with parents and babies in mind. It is lightweight and easy to move. She also said that the swivelling bassinet base was a great idea because it let you move it from side to side. One of its sides could be lower to facilitate access for moms who are recovering from c-sections.

Safety

A large bedside cot's main security characteristic is the fact that it is able to be moved up or down so that parents can reach their child to feed or comfort them, or change his or his or her diaper. This makes it perfect for new mothers recovering from an C-section. You should look for the design that lets you lower the bed's side with a single button press. This allows you to lift your child up without getting out of bed. This is essential, especially as your child grows and becomes more mobile. Avoid adding anything that could increase the risk of injury or suffocation such as duvets and pillowcases which could cause your baby to overheat.

The CPSC's NPR included 24 incidents that were attributed to product issues, such as gaps between the bedside sleeper and the adult bed (12 incidents) and enclosed openings with fabric sides (11 incidents); consumer misassembly or missing parts (6 incidents) and miscellaneous other product-related issues (9 incidents).

In its NPR, the CPSC considered the possibility of adding additional requirements for sleepers in bed, such as the requirement that these beds satisfy the minimum side height requirement for bassinets or at a minimum, meet the maximum height requirement for the lowered side rail. However the CPSC concluded that such requirements would not be efficient or feasible to reduce the number of incidents in which infants were trapped between a bedside sleeper and an adult bed.

Many of the incidents reported in the NPR concerned multi-use bedside sleepers which can be converted into other types of equipment, like play yards or bassinets. Several commenters suggested that the CPSC include in the proposed rule an alternative option for multi-use bedside beds to allow them to meet the minimum side-height requirements for large bedside cot bassinets by using an attachment that can be permanently connected or disconnected when the item is not being used as a bassinet.

The CPSC is examining these and other comments received in response to its NPR on sleepers who are bedside. The Commission will take into account these comments when it votes on the final rule which is expected to be published in November 2021.
