How to Replace an Audi A5 key Fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor

In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located at the edge of transmission just above the flywheel gear. It sends a message to the ECU through the grey wire T55/49 and then to the tachometer on the instrument cluster.

It is located on the outside of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear, the G28 Engine Speed Sensor sends signals to ECU pin T55/49 through the grey wire. The ECU uses this information to control the amount of fuel and boost. It also sends a signal to the G5 tachometer inside the instrument cluster.

The sensor is used as a reference to correlate with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must be aware of when the crankshaft has reached TDC, and where the camshaft lies to trigger the spark and injectors.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This indicates that the Crank Shaft is out of alignment with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or a jump in the chain link of the upper timing chain. However, the error code won't appear on its own without additional information from other sensors (G4 and G40).

It's a bit tricky to test since there are several connector pins, and audi replacement key fob Car Key Replacement (Https://Mozillabd.Science/) each has its own functions. The most effective method to test it is to measure the resistance between the ECU and the sensor. If the sensor is functional, it should read approximately 1000 ohms. Examine for evidence of coolant or oil in the connector bay if you are experiencing issues with this part.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll, i experienced a big cut in power like the engine is out of gas or the injectors are not firing anymore. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning and found that 3 were soaked in gasoline, and the 4th was dry. I placed a tissue over each injector hole and when I start the engine with no sparks, the 3 that have gazoline pop right out. The 4th one stays shut. I tested the ground connection of ECU pins 14,30 and 48/55. I found 0ohm. I think the issue is in another location.

I also tried to reset the PID without success. The car is able to start when the G28 is not plugged in and it runs perfectly when it is plugged in however it has the intermittent misfire issue at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c even when i unplug it. I also noticed that the oil gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar when the actual pressure is zero.

I'm not certain what to do, as i feel i have pretty much eliminated everything else. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. Please let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter functions similarly to the G4 sender and works on the 80,100,200, UrS, and RS2 vehicles. You can easily find the spare in a salvage shop or parts store. It is simple to test them: simply put your DMM into resistance mode and test the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They must be infinite ohms.

4. ECU

The ECU of our 20vt turbo (3B AAN ABY ADU) engines requires to be aware of the position and speed of the crankshaft to determine timing of fuel injectors, etc. To accomplish this, it utilizes a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these sensors go wrong, you will receive codes on the diagnostic scanner which can lead to engine shutdown.

A damaged G28 sensor can cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox or a gearbox that shifts faster than normal, and/or a misfire while in the gear. It is possible that your sensor is failing and needs to be replaced if you experience any of these signs. They are cheap and easy-to-find particularly if they're a Bosch unit like ours. Alternately, the GM version of this component is also a good choice.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine sensor can cause a variety of issues within your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission in your audi replacement key service since it sends information to the ECU on how fast or slow the engine is turning. If the sensor fails, it can disrupt the performance of the transmission and the rest of the car's components.

The G5 engine sensor is located near the edge of the transmission, just above the flywheel ring. It transmits signals via gray wire to ECU pin T55/49. The ECU utilizes this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost as well as timig. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer inside the instrument cluster. You can check for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. Additionally, you can examine the continuity between pins T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]), and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should detect an average resistance of 1000 ohms between these two points. This is the same across the replacement audi key fob 80-100-200-RS2 model, ranging from the 1985 MC up to the 1997 UrS An and 1995 RS2 DU, so you might find them in wrecking yards.
