A squeaky hinge could be a sign that the hinges are wearing out, and this is usually caused by the rubbing of metal against. A small drop of lubricant may help but when the noise continues to recur, it is likely that the hinges require replacement.

You can determine whether the new one has the exact same height of step as the previous one by measuring the distance from the guide for the crank arm bushing to the notch on the track at the bottom of the frame. You can also determine the length of the spindle on the handle you currently have to determine the size of a replacement.

The type of window handle you have will determine what kind of crank mechanism is required for your casement or awning windows. Espag handles have a mental spindle on their back that is attached to the frame of the window, and controls the window mechanism, while cockspur external door handles feature pegs which are fixed to the frame by screws of three or four which are fixed to the sash and frame.

Once you've found the appropriate replacement, it's easy to fit. First, take off any trim mounting screws that are on the casement cover of your window and carefully lift it up to reveal the insides of the window operator (Photo 1). Compare the new operating lever with the old one and remove any trim screws that are rusted. Then, attach the replacement to the window frame, replacing any screws that were damaged or bent, and place the casement cover over the mechanism.
